How you can serve in your community...
GC = Jesus' Great Commandment
19 = Matthew 19:19: "Love your neighbor as yourself"
The Great Commandment: "...love your neighbor as yourself."
Matthew 19:19
GC19 is Lakeside's way of showing the love of Christ to the community. Opportunities to show Christ's love are now organized. They include:
- preparing and serving meals al the Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati
- preparing a meal and holding chapel services for homeless men at Fairhaven Rescue Mission in Covington
- working at the Action Ministries warehouse stocking shelves and preparing food packages for their clients or assisting with printing/folding their monthly newsletter.
The External Church focus of Lakeside Christian Church is an effort to change the mindset of our culture from an emphasis of self-service to one of external service.
Who Should be Involved?
You! Families, Couples, Singles, Youth, Seniors
Matthew 22:39 "...Love your neighbor as yourself."
Why Do This?
- Christ teaches us to serve.
- You Need it.
- Your family needs it.
- Our community needs it.
Matthew 25:40 "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
How Do I Get Started?
Visit the kiosk in the lobby at Lakeside Christian Church , scroll down to see the programs that are being offered, or contact Hugh Wicks at hugh(at)lakeside.org
When Should You Be Involved?
Regularly (weekly or monthly). The idea is to create significant service opportunities for you and your family that are ongoing.
How Does It Work?
- Sign up for a program at the kiosk.
- One of the lead couples for the program will contact you.
Oncology Gift Baskets
A new outreach opportunity is in the planning stages and we are looking for your ideas and input. We wish to begin providing gift baskets for oncology units. The baskets will be given to family members who have loved ones with extended stays in oncology units. Please contact Kristi Baehner at rbaehner(at)fuse.net.
Scarf It Up
Scarf It Up is our project to provide scarves, hats and gloves to needy children in our community. Our goal is to make 800+ scarves that will be distributed through River Ridge Family Resources, Isaiah Project and Fairhaven Rescue Mission. Free yarn is available at the GC19 kiosk in the lobby. At Lakeside we have classes to teach you to crochet or knit. They meet on Mondays from 10am-Noon.
